PLEASE REFER TO "CLASS INFO AND GRADING SCALE" SECTION OF MY WEBSITE for better understanding of the Standards-Based Grading philosophy is our grading focus for the school year.

Throughout the year we incorporate a variety of strategies, resources, and learning tools to help your child’s transition with California Math Standards and content learning. One of the main focuses with Math will be using our newly adopted curriculum called Eureka Math Squared, along with another valuable learning resource program called IReady, along with Chromebooks for your student within the classroom on weekly basis. Within this curriculum we utilize several learning resources that challenge our students to learn math in a progressive way. You and your child will have access from home, to many math resources we use on a daily basis, for both practice and assignment completion. In addition to Eureka Math Squared and IReady, students will learn and strengthen their math knowledge through another helpful technology resource called Khan Academy. If you need assistance or have questions about how these programs are used, feel free to ask.

Within Math, my teaching strategies and approach to learning will be a mixture of some teacher guidance for skill/concept-learning, collaboration among all students, and also small group interactions to maximize each student’s learning potential and progress with California Math standards-based learning. This way, students become more comfortable in our learning environment to share their knowledge with others and to also learn from their peers. We will use Google Classroom on weekly basis, so your child can continue learning through technology and this will allow us to not have to rely on so much paper use. For Eureka Math Squared, all students will also have their own workbooks and online-related resources, as we progress through each unit of our curriculum.

To begin our school year, we will begin with our Unit 0 and then transition into the first unit focusing on Ratios- More details and guidance to be provided here, once our new school year starts

Homework: Homework will be emphasized more this school year from a schoolwide approach, even though we try to accomplish our learning goals and objectives during our class time throughout each week. Through consistent practice of math content and skills being taught, this will ultimately have a positive effect on learning, which will lead to effective application of math skills with the cross-curricular tasks and goals students will be learning. Strategies on how to consistently accomplish assigned work in class will be taught and explained, with an expectation of completion on a regular basis.

On occasion there may be some Eureka Math Squared assignments (given time in class but some students may need additional time to complete outside of class for the next day), in addition to IReady practice efforts to help students continue to strengthen their understanding of Math concepts.
