Welcome Back San Gorgonio Middle School


Hello Hurricane Families,


Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. We hope that this letter finds you and your family healthy and safe. We understand that this is a fluid time that may raise many questions and concerns. We hope this letter serves to clarify many questions and concerns. Please view the SGMS Welcome Video to meet our counselors, support staff, and admin.


Instructional Calendar

We have been working with our Leadership Team to move the 1st day of school from Thursday, August 6, 2020, to Monday, August 10, 2020.  Moving the start date will provide the teachers with professional development and planning time to ensure that the students receive quality instruction through virtual learning. The official start date will be announced on Friday, July 31st in the weekly District communication.  If the August 10th date is confirmed, we will change the 2020-2021 Instructional Calendar to include October 9, 2020, and June 4, 2021 as instructional student days.


Virtual Learning

Students will begin with "Virtual Learning". This learning model is mandatory for all districts in our county at this time. For those of you that experienced virtual learning in the spring, I assure you that it will look very different. Teachers are better prepared to deliver grade level instruction using grade level curriculum and standards. Further, there will be a structured daily schedule that includes daily synchronous learning. I know many of you are working families and are anticipating the challenges associated with learning from home. As a parent of school-aged children, I completely understand. We will do our best to create a positive experience for our students. Thank you, in advance, for your patience, flexibility and support as we work through the challenges together. I look forward to the return of students, in person, when it is safe to do so. 


What is "Virtual Learning"

Virtual learning is learning from home. Students connect with their teacher by logging into a virtual classroom using a district issued Chromebook or personal device. Teachers provide live online instruction (synchronous) daily as well as independent work for students to complete on their own (asynchronous).


Virtual Meet The Teacher Night

Your child's teacher will send a recorded video introducing themselves on Friday, August 7, 2020 through Parent Square. In this video message, you will also receive  information for a Virtual Meet The Teacher Night scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm. This will be an opportunity to meet the teachers, ask general questions, or address concerns. 


You will need to use your student’s district approved email or a Google email to access Google Meets. We will also send out a document on Parentsquare with all the Google Meets Links for each teacher so you can access the virtual sessions as needed.  


School Communication

All school and teacher communication will be sent through the Parent Square communication system. Please check your email often for important information. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. If you have questions, you can call the front office at 951 769-4391 or  visit our website at


Chromebook and Textbook Drive-Through Distribution

Your student may pick up a chromebook during textbook distribution. If you currently have a chromebook that is not working, please return it at this time and we will give you a replacement device. 


To ensure the health and wellness of students and staff, and in accordance with the strong recommendations from the Riverside County Health Officer, we are taking the following precautions:

  • Students must wear a face covering while on campus.
  • Only SGMS students are permitted on campus.
  • Please maintain a minimum of 6 feet of distance from others while on campus.
  • Campus will be cleared promptly at 4:00 pm.

All student textbooks, chromebooks and other checked out materials will be distributed on these dates:

Please drive in through the Adult School parking lot on Cherry Avenue and follow the signs to pick up  the textbooks.




Aeries Parent Portal login will be sent home via email on Tuesday, August 4th


IMPORTANT: Teacher assignments are subject to change based on enrollment


Special Education

In addition to information listed above, students who receive Special Education Services will be contacted by the student’s case manager regarding your child’s special education supports and services at the beginning of the school year.
